Agility event Originally dog show with such a name was introduced to the audience in 1978. The idea of agility contest belongs to British athlete John Varley, who developed competition plan resembling obstacle course to be overcome by a horse at the races. The trainer J. Maxwill launched quite a performance with participation of large dogs, which was enthusiastically greeted by the English and afterwards regularly held under the same name-“agility”. In the ensuing years the agility event acquired vogue in France, Netherlands and Belgium. In 1987, International Canine Federation adopted official regulations for these competitions, which were soon approved by the General Committee of FCI. Program of international agility competition is designed for 5-year period. Extraordinary popularity of agility in Western Europe clearly made itself evident in the fact that in 1996 only in France there were 400 of such events; but in Netherlands and Belgium- almost 70. The event is a kind of sport game and its participants have an opportunity not only to show off the skills acquired and native abilities but also get more experience dealing with people that makes it much easier for the animals to adapt to human society. By definition, agility is a passage of obstacle course by the dogs at a rapid pace. Representatives of any breeds are allowed to compete in this contest that yet more encourages the growth in popularity of the agility among the dogs’ owners. The track During the passage of a line the dog overcomes various obstacles, which can determine the overall pace of its movement. There are established procedures to overcome the obstacles, herein the time, for which the dog executes a particular task, is taken into consideration. The ground area, where competitions are held, must be 20 m long at least and 40 meters wide. A barrier partitions the double distance. If the barrier is not used, it is necessary to lay the routes for a distance not less than 10 m from each other. The distance length ranges from 100 to 200 m. There are 10-20 different obstacles to be placed throughout its entire length. (their quantity depends on competition category). In the course of the contests the dogs pass not only single but also double and triple obstacles. Their height should not exceed 0.7 m. In using a combination of 2 and 3 barriers the judges, summing up, estimate the every unit separately, though such combination represents integration.
