It is required to remove leash and collar from the dog before the competitions. When performing the exercise only dog passes obstacles but not its guide. As well the guide must not have any objects in his hands and he does not have the right to touch the dog or entities placed along the route. Starting signal is given by the guide in response to the judge’s sign. On hearing the command the dog must cross the start line. From this very moment the time is recorded with a stopwatch which is in the judge’s hands. While dog’s overcoming the distance the guide can give it necessary commands or secret signs. In dog’s crossing a finish straight a stopwatch is switched off and the time on passage a distance is registered by the judges. Types of obstacles The obstacles used during agility competitions and approved by International Canine Federation are barriers, a wall, an angled wall, table, stoppage area, boom, swing, slalom, hard and soft tunnels, hoop, elements for long jumps, element “ river” and small obstacles called “ Cavaletti” . The problem of the guide is to watch the dog to pass the obstacles in the right way: all of them are to be numbered and overcome in the prescribed sequence. They can be single, double and triple. The barriers should be installed between two stands which provide necessary rigidity. The barriers can be made of separate planks or solid shields. Double or triple barriers are of 2-3 single units fixed successively taking into account height increase of obstacles. The highest unit is placed last and its height is 0.75 m. Barrier width is to be not less than 1.2 m. Walls These elements are either solid construction or have grooves in the form of tunnels. At the top of the walls hemispheric dismountable elements are set up, which can fall if touched by the dog while passing the line. Wall width must not exceed 1.2 m, height – 0.75 m, but thickness – 0.2 m. Booms They should have the following dimensions: height is 1.2 m-1.35 m, the width of the platform – 0.3- 0.4 m, the length of each of the three boom’s elements- 3.6-4.2 m. In addition, laths are fixed to the two inclined elements. The laths are paralleled and narrowly spaced from each other.
