It is necessary to prepare the female before beginning of labor: bathe her curple, perineum and externalia with warm water and soap and then treat with weak solution of manganese potassium (1:1000) or furatsilin (1: 5000). If an owner wants to assist his doggess during her labor then he should cut his fingernails, wash his hands with soap and then wipe with 0.1 % solution of iodated spirit. State of the dog during lying-in Just prior to labor the doggess seeks solitude, scrapes and excavates the bedding trying to form a nest for herself. She breathes very hard, lies without standing up, refuses to eat, feels edgy; her body muscles tremble and foetuses start stirring. Body temperature of female lowers in the last days before labor and jumps during this process which may last from 3 to 12 hours. At the time of last puppy’s birth the temperature reaches its maximum value. It is necessary to take the temperature every 12 hours during a week: 4 days before labor and 3 days after it. Lying-in Act of delivery includes 3 stages: -preliminary; - extraction of foetus; -postpartum.
