Teaching your dog to come... Start over with a new cue, since now your cue "come" means "amble over in my direction if nothing more exciting is happening elsewhere." That's a perfectly nice meaning for a cue, but it's probably not what you're looking for: a dog who roars over to you, full speed ahead, as soon as you give your cue. So: 1. pick a new cue—you may use "here" 2. For the next two weeks, every single bite of food gets paired with this cue. You want to teach your dog that when he hears "here", he's going to get fed. Start simple: a. 30 times, stand right by your dog inside the house, say "here" and immediately give him a piece of his kibble, mixed in with some awesome treats (remember, he's not getting any other food for two weeks) b. go stand in another room, with your dog beside you, say "here" and give him a treat--30 times c. go stand outside, in the boring yard, and do it again. You're teaching him to associate the word "here" with a treat, no matter what the location is.
