Trace work (division A) This exercise is as follows: dog seeks for different objects on the trail. The length of guide’s trail is to be 600 m, the trail should be laid 30 min before the searches began. There are 2 angles throughout the tracing route; in certain places the guide puts 2 objects for the dog to discover them later on. When performing an exercise the dog must be led on a leash (the length of it is 10m) and have a trace breast-band on. The guide, that leaves a trace, must head on straight going from a given point. The direction is specified by prefabricated plan of trace line. At that he should stay at the given point for about 1 min (he should stand quietly without shifting from one foot to another in order for his trail to be distinct and there must not be needless, “odd” smell). Walking evenly, the guide breaks trace route towards the final stage. While cutting the route, the guide should put two small objects in the line. Their color must contrast with the color of earth in the training ground in order to be seen even from afar. It is forbidden to feed the dog with dainties during its testing and to place bits of food along the route i.e. it may attract dog’s attention. The one of the objects is placed 50 m off the first angle of trace line, the second one is to be at the final waypoint. Trace leash, which is used for leading the dog, should be of full length before trace testing started. The guide can start following the dog only after loosing the leash full-length. Sometimes the dog can not immediately pick up the trail at the first go-of. It these cases according to the rules, the dog can be laid on again (the points are not cancelled for it). The third attempt for performing the exercise is excluded. When working out the trace route, the experts give points to the dog. Here the dog can score 78 points at most. Discovering either of the objects is 11 points. In total maximum number of points scored by dog is 100. Revelation of the objects, left in the line, is defined by one of the three ways: lying down, sitting down or stopping. At that before working out the route the guide should inform the expert which of the named ways will be used. On dog’s discovering either of the objects, the guide should let the committee see them by lifting and holding them high above his head. If the dog, when passing the distance, moves away from the trace line for more than 10 m, performing the exercise is interrupted by the experts and the result shall be disregarded. When the dog passes trace route the guide should restrict instruction issue to the limit, though it is quite possible to encourage pit bull while its performing the exercise. It must stride evenly along an underlaid line and without speeding up the tempo.
