Origins are said to come from the English bulldog, which is in some respects very like the blue pit bulls. It was during the 1800s that the English, Irish and Scottish started to cross breed the bulldog with other terriers to see if they could bred a fighting dog with more aggression than the terrier and more stamina than the bulldog. The blue pit bulls were the result of this crossbreeding and these dogs soon became very popular not only in the UK but also in many other countries of the world. The American people took lovingly to this bred of dog perhaps because of its independent nature and aggressiveness. Unfortunately in America the blue pit bulls have a bad reputation from untrained dogs being overly aggressive and this has developed a ban on these animals. The dog was originally bred to bait bulls and also bears which are much larger animals than themselves. Later they were used in the game sport of ratting where the dogs would kill as many rats as possible in the shortest amount of time. These uses where all deemed illegal as the animals would get hurt or killed so now the blue pit bulls are not really a sporting dog unless you can train them to hunt. All around America you will find that people are selling blue pitbulls which are either pure breed or half breed because the demand for these animals is so high. Breeders can tell you that these dogs can be a handful some times however it is unlikely that you will find a dog like this that is so loyal to its owner and is also good with children.
