There must be an interval approximately 7 m long between separate obstacles placed sequentially. Distance layout is made by the judges. However, it is necessary to consider that moving direction of the route to be passed must be changed 2 times at least. In the course of en-route traffic developed by promoters of the contests, the dog will have to overcome different obstacles successfully and at certain pace assignments. In determining the standard time to overcome the distance, competition category and route –passing complexity are taken into account. Speed of the dog’s movement on marked route varies from 1.8 to 3.5 m/sec. Owing to division total route length by the speed required for its overcoming (the speed is registered by the judges) a standard time rate for a given distance is obtained. For example, suppose that the route length was 160 m and at the same time the rate was 2.8 m/sec. In this case the standard time to cover a distance will amount about 57.14 sec. (160: 2.8 = 57.14 c). During every agility competition the judges deliberately change route layout and disposition of obstacles: it is necessary for the dog to accustom to work in line with different scripts. The maximum time for overcoming the distance is a standard time rate multiplied by 2. Consequently, if the standard time is 57.14 sec., the maximum one will be 114.28 sec. (57.14 *2 = 114.28 sec). Before the competitions the guide without the dog can examine the route to familiarize oneself with all the peculiarities of the route which one he with his dog will have to get over later. The judge brings to the guides’ notice all the necessary information: maximum and standard movement time, competitive conditions and marking code of dogs’ performance. The competitions begin with guide’s going to the take-off.
