A lot of dogs, particularly bull breeds play quite roughly, a lot of they way they play is similar to how it would look if they were aggressing (wrestling, chewing on each others necks/muzzle area, voclalisations like growling etc). However you can usually tell through the body language and noise when the play becomes too intense, if the dogs have nice 'loose' body language, there's lots of play bows and the vocalisations (if there are any) don't sound too frantic and both dogs seem to be comfortable then this is good. Another good indication that the play is 'safe' is that the dogs will swap roles, for example the one that has been doing the chasing is now the one being chased, etc. However there is a fine line between normal play arousal and the type of overarousal that can cause problems between the dogs, so you really do need to be careful not to let your pup routinely engage in play that is inappropriately rough as this can lead to bad play habits when older, does your older dog ever give out to the pup when she's playing?...to continue reading this article please click on here...
