Degrees of exposure.. deciding safe places to take your "bulldog"
Degree of Exposure: Dog Park...Grade "
F"...unknown dogs, unknown owners, too many dogs at one time, people thinking the dog park is where to socialize their DA dog, multiple dogs for one owner.
Public Parks (fairly crowded)...Grade "
C-D"...depends on how crowded...do they have off the beat nature paths (a plus)...can usually avoid situations IF the other dog owners are as aware as you, parents not watching children close enough, possible alcohol (rowdy "pit bull lovers"-let them fight dude!)
Indoor Dog Friendly Facilities (i.e.,. PetSmart/Lowes/Home Depot...Doggy Daycare)...Grade "
D-F"...can get cornered in small spaces...people think it is like a mall and nothing will happen...Daycare workers do not fully understand the "bulldog breed"
Neighborhood Walks...Grade "
A-B+"...you know your environment (including the fact that strays are or aren't usually loose)...more likely to carry a deterrent for other dogs (spray, ect)...can actually plan escape routes ahead of time
Planned Dog Playdates...Grade "
B-C+"...you know the dogs...you can limit the numbers...but they are still off leash...need to recognize body language and stay as close as possible to the "action" (good idea to walk the dogs first before letting them off-leash)
Leaving your Dog with a "Friend"...Grade "
Incomplete"...you are not there and anything can happen (nobody knows your dog better than you)...the "friend" might not know this breed and fully understand the job at hand...could be a bit "loose" with securing your dog
Backyard/Private Property...Grade "
A"...you are in 99.9% control...you do what works best to secure your dog and keep others out...very limited exposure to troublesome circumstances ***One of the most important things to remember is that no matter
what you and your dog do right...in a public place it is sometimes
what others do wrong!***
