John Colby is the most famous breeder of all time. He emigrated from Ireland to America in 1900. He took along a thoroughbred dog belonged to the strain “Old Family”. He was a great admirer of that breed and dedicated all his life to improvement and popularization of pit bull terrier. Together with his pure line “Old Family” Colby kept the other lines as well: interbred them (outcross), then elaborately selected the best samples from these combinations and created elite individuals, copulating the best male with the best female (line ones being nearly related) but crossed inbred strain with noninbred one if it was necessary. He had bred variety of elite samples. His line dogs were kept in the kennels owned by majority of American breeders (Tudor, Corvino, William G. Lightner, Dan McCoy, Macco, Bob Neblett , Armitage , etc.). His basic concern was to involve as many people as possible in managing and breeding the dog that was descended from the line “Old Family”. It is difficult to single out the best individual among these dogs (because all of them were excellent in due time and each type was wonderful), but it is too easy to do it for short period of time. The best dogs bred by Colby are Rifle, then Dime, Texas, Cheetah, Barney… They are the dogs, who have become the basis for many breeders during their work on the new lines which bring colossal results. There are well-known lines, which have descended from the line “Old Family”, videlicet Colby’s dog lines: Bo, Rom (Jeep’s father) - Cheetah’s grandchild, Jeff Tilla (Tramp Red Boy’s father) – grandchild Dime, Iron lady (Iron Lady Creeda (mother of famous Red Devil (Red Devil) - granddaughter Little Cookie, but her father –Dime. Devil is a father of famous Maximilian Vicce who has set up Maximilian line giving distinguished brave fighters nowadays. At last, eminence of our time is (in particular dog litter) Dibo was descended from line dogs and the basis of it is “Old Family”, exactly Dibo was born by mating of the dogs from kennels owned by Colby and Feelie. From everything before-mentioned we see that John Colby is the most famous breeder of all time. After Colby’s death his son Joe inherited the helm and bred the lines though he was not a great success as his father was. However, in order to keep the line actual, the other breeders took care for it, and among them are Laurence Macco and his son Bruce, then Bob Neblett, Dan McCoy, etc. Thanks to John P. Colby, at present time there are samples that are superior to their forefathers by parity and some other qualities...
