General "Woof" Tip: Very important to pay attention on what kind of rivets is used to make your leather product. Some companies trying to cut down prices and use low quality rivets which will rust within weeks and can harm you and your dog because edges are sharp and not polished There is no authentic data where from pit bulls were imported in USA. Incidentally, the greatest import of these dogs was from Ireland, right after “potato starvation” in 1845. Staff of life was potato at that time in Ireland. In 1845 all the harvest was crushed by potato aphis-disease brought from North America. Living conditions were hard. In next 1846 due to repeated loss of potato Ireland was overwhelmed with agony. Hunger and disease desolated the country. People ate everything: cattle, pigs, cats, rats, insects. Just during this period original Irish Alsatian dog (IAD) was destroyed. Present IAD is graded by Captain Graham. Aftermath of hunger for Irish people was disastrous. Population decreased from 9mn to 4 mn. From 5 mn of residents who Ireland lost half died by starvation, but the rest emigrated. Most of them failed to tolerate the path to America and had to choose shorter route to England, where they settled near rich mining towns, in particular in the neighborhood of Stafford and in county Staffordshire. Taking into account that statute issued in 1835 forbade those with income less than 40 mn per year to possess hunting dogs, poor families were obliged to have dogs of other breeds (terriers) for insect protection. As far as pit bull is known to be giving a litter of various sizes, these valiant people kept smaller samples, calling them pit-terriers (former title –“bulldog”) and so avoided the violation of the prohibition against possession of large hunting dogs. It should be emphasized here that there was an opinion prevailing over at the moment that big game hunting was a privilege of well-to-do social classes. So, at that date name “pit-terrier” was used for the first time instead of its initial (original) name “bulldog”. Let us remark there, that then bulldog (now known as APBT) was used for dangerous game hunting (wild pigs, bears, etc.).Then there already were English (blunt-nosed) bulldogs bred by mating of old bulldog (this APBT) and Chinese pug-dog, however it was bred as domestic dog because of its unusual appearance, but due to its poor physical susceptibility this dog was inadequate for hunting. Irish pit-terriers (half of dogs (American pit bull terriers) selected linearly) with a glance to their small size and light weight these dogs were useful for guard and very transportable so far and their owners always took them along if moving house. The Irish were somehow recognized by their pit bull terriers, because the only pleasure which the poor of the day could afford in those rare moments when they had spare time was dog fighting during which a pet of Irishman could demonstrate its courage and invincibility. Thereat there were the battles for prestige in impoverished mining towns and wins of the pets did their penniless owners only personal satisfaction; rich social units watched the battles as well, but prosperous members of society enjoyed the other things and this matter took another course. Big money was involved in this entertainment and the rich paid for watch on dog fighting.
